Designing the title

In this lesson I have started designing the title of the magazine. Firstly, I researched different websites for font generator and I found  http://www.dafont.com/ to help me find an appropriate font for my title. However, before I decide which title I'm going to use, I will create another survey for the magazines motto.

I used decorative font and changed the colour of each letter.
This is so that the different colours show the variety of the students.
Moreover, this title would only be clear to read if the background
image I use will be black and white or edited so that it contrasts with the title.

Considering that the first title I have designed is most likely to ''blend in''
with the background image, I only changed the colour of three letters so that the
whole title could be seen clearly. Furthermore, if I was to use this design,
I would change the green letter to yellow for the effect of using the primary colours.

In this design, I have left the font sharp, clear and single coloured, because I added
loggo to the title - palette, which is colourful and gives the design a simple but
profesional look. However, if I chose this design I would try changing the font so that
it appears more artistic.

Name for magazine

I have decided I'm going to name the magazine Colours. Although this title wasn't the most popular, I chose it because I think it emphasizes the variety of different people in the school but also puts everyone in an equal position, meaning everyone is just as important in our community.

SURVEY 1

Today I have surveyed students of my age around the school, to find out which title would be most eye catching and interesting. My results were:
Creation = 3 ( because it goes with art)
Ambition = 8 ( because it makes you think of your future and interests, meaningful title)
Palette = 5 ( because it is different)
Progress = 0
Abstract = 2 ( because it is abstract itself)
Future = 1 ( sounds mysterious and catchy)
Colours = 2 ( Interesting, different and arty- because you always use colours when you do art)
Self portrait = 2 ( because it is a unique name for a magazine)

Considering my results and opinions from other students, I still cannot decide between the titles Creation,Ambition,Palette and Colours.
I have chosen Colours as I thought it was meaningful and creative.
The others suggest Creation,Palette and Ambition because they are the keywords or objects of art and sound unique.

Planning and Research

To begin my coursework, I have decided to make an appropriate name for a art college magazine I will be designing. The names I came up with are: Creative,Ambition,Pallete,Progress,Abstract,Future,Colours and Selfportrait.

I have researched and analyzed existing products on the Internet (school/college magazines) to give me an idea of what makes them successful, what kind of information is included and what most of them have in common e.g. design and layout.

These are just a couple of examples of what most college or 6th-form magazines look like. I have notised that a lot of them have a short title, and a very colourful, eye catching front cover. The masthead always stands out and is clear to read.
