evaluation

Working with existing forms and conventions
Researching magazine conventions that are commonly used in all types of magazines and applying them onto my own magazine allowed and helped me to relate my magazine to other existing music magazines.
My preliminary task helped me to get familiar with most of the conventions which made it easier for me to deal with the layout and design of my music magazine. I already knew that the masthead colors must never blend in with the background as it wouldn't be eye catching.
Meanwhile working on my front cover, I found out that using bigger font for the cover story is more conventional, therefore I used bigger font and also different color for my cover story as it would attract more readers. The captions i put in would include names of other famous artists, which would tell the readers that the magazine features stuff that the ideal reader would be mostly interested in.
While analysing the images used for front covers, I noticed that magazines tend to use an image of a band dressed in dark colors to symbolize that the rock genre, and image of just one person for genres like pop. Considering this being a convention, I used an image of a girl with an acoustic guitar and that would suggest the artist makes pop or alternative music. Designing a school magazine also enabled me to fully understand how to choose the correct mode of address. This would include using appropriate use of language and colours which is linked to the age of the ideal readers - in my case 15 - 19 in both tasks.
Name of the magazine was easy to choose for both tasks as I have created a surveys for my classmates. Each time I would make up names that would have something in common with the school or music magazine and as my school magazine was focused on art, I ended up calling it Colours, however in the survey this name didn't get the most votes.
For my music magazine I had done the same thing as it was conventional from my research; where all music magazines had catchy, short and easy to remember names . The language I have chosen was informal and was used mostly in my double page spread interview as the artist's answers were not hanged, however i did not use a lot of slang words and the text was clear to read therefore the style of language was kept conventional.
Working in media production contexts
When deciding on appropriate images to use for my music magazine, I was recommended to take my own pictures and therefore I had to organize a small photo shoot with which involved my friend posing and my classmate advising and helping me on which camera angles and positioning would create powerful images. This was successful as I had my own camera and the photo shoot was arranged outside school which meant I could take my time and do everything properly. However, when designing my double page spread I realized I had only used two different places - my house and the school stage. The school stage was appropriate place to take images but as I did not have the chance to get more people involved, as it was during school time and I was unable to create an image of a concert where the viewers would be able to see the crowd of fans below the stage.
Nevertheless, I found it easy to edit these images and arrange them professionally.
Changing the layout of my music magazine was difficult at first, as I had trouble with the making the magazine look professional at the same time conventional.
To solve this problem I have asked my classmates for feedback every time I have made a change to the layout, and that helped me with deciding on which design I will use as my final.
Using technology
I have decided that that best solution my front cover, contents page and double page spread design would be photo shop as it has the same qualities as DTP, however it allows me to manipulate images and text better than DTP. I knew this because I used the Internet to find appropriate font for the front cover title and this type of font was not available on either of the softwares, however using photo shop and print screen allowed me to save the chosen font as an image, cut it and arrange it onto my front cover.
As I already have experience with photo shop it was easy for me to handle the basic editing such as cropping, resizing and changing the color and applying effects to my images.  Throughout my research, I had noticed that some of the main images of artists for the double page spread are cut out from its background or have something added to it, which I was unable to do at first, which slowed down my progress. I was then given a useful website which was provided with tips on how to cut out only certain parts of an image, and that helped me to apply this to my front cover and double page spread.
Thinking about audience
To make sure that my magazine fulfilled its purpose and attracted the ideal reader, I have created surveys for my classmate and people aged 15/19, either asking them for an effective name for my magazines, or the information used in the magazine - e.g. what the audience would and wouldn't like to read in the magazine. Doing this helped me to keep my designs appealing and eye catching to the right age group of people, which made them more successful and effective. During each draft I've designed, I asked for a feedback where my classmates would tell me what is good about and bad about e.g. the layout and also what they think I should change in order to keep it more conventional. For example, at first my music magazine cover was meant to be designed simple and professional but when I asked for a feedback I was told that it would be more conventional if my front cover included more cover lines and range of colors for the text instead of just using black.

Applying Use and Gratification Theory to my magazine

The artist which I have chosen for my music magazine is a new pop/rock singer and will be on the front cover and double page spread. It will include and interview where the artist will be asked about her past before becoming famous and future - what they are planning to produce.
The readers of this magazine will find it easy to relate to the artist as she falls within the same age range of an ideal reader and also because an ideal reader of the magazine would be interested into the music she promotes. This is also as the style of language in the interview will not be too formal and some use of slang may occur.
The magazine will inform its readers about the current pop and rock music and latest young artists as viewer will become heavily influenced by them. The magazine will be entertaining as it will include lots of popural stuff

• What form of entertainment does the magazine provide for the reader?
• What form does this entertainment take and how does this create forms of escapism for the reader?

Front Cover

I have decided to add more text and cover lines to my front cover and change the background colour to grey so that it matches with my contents page and doesn't look too different. this is also because the previous background colour was too  light.

Artist for my music magazine

Over the weekend, I have created an artist for my magazine Record.
I name her Stella Martino- a 18 year old girl from England. Her music is based on Pop and Alternative. She plays the guitar and has become very famous over a few weeks and is becoming a pop icon and is idolized by many teenagers.I also created draft interview which will go in the magazine.

Exclusive interview with  Stella !! Find out how she became famous and what she is planning ahead.

How do you feel, knowing that you are becoming Englands new Pop Star?
I feel really happy that people enjoy and can relate to my music and I’m really proud to represent England and I hope that one day I’ll become international.

How do you plan to accomplish that?
As my background is Italian I’m hoping some of the Italian artist would be interested in working with me and also I would really want to work with big stars like Katy Perry.

What do your parents think about this?
They are very supportive and happy for me, but also worried as this is happening so quicky and none of us are used to this kind of life.

We also heard that there was a rumor that you worked with Lady Gaga… Is it true?
Yes it is true and it was really exiting and inspiring, as I used some of her music as an influence to my song ‘Lets kick it’. We are also planning to make a video shoot in Miami.

So how did you get in contact with her?
As I was discovered from MySpace, and my music became more known in England, her manager showed my songs to her and she contacted me saying she believes I have the potential to be successful in America, so I’m hoping it works out.

Is this song going to be included in your new album?
Yes it will be first track on the album, and I can tell you it’s a catchy song. HAHA.

What about the other songs in the album?
Well, you are going to have to find out yourself. But it will be soon, as my album come out in a few weeks.

So what about your current song?  What is it about?
Just In Case is a song about a girl who likes a boy but is insecure about his feelings toward him, so she wants to let him know that if he leaves her, she won't be heartbroken but stay strong.

Why did you make this song?
I made this song becuase I wanted my girl fans to relate to my songs, as my previous songs were related and addressed to boys. So now I wanted to make something for both.

Why did you name your album No Ordinary?
Because some of the songs are really different and ever since I was discovered, my life has been no ordinary.

When and where are you planning to go on stage for the first time?
I’ve already planned for it in February in London as it is my favorite place, so let’s hope no one asks for a refund.HAHAHAHA.

These are pictures which  I might use for the front cover and double page spread.

Magazine interview

Over the weekend I have read an interview from a pop magazine.
Firstly the interview started of with a small introduction of who the magazine is interviewing, and then ask the first question which is usually about the stars previous life or how they managed to get to 'the top'.
If the pop star is young the next question is usually : "What do you parents say about this?"or "How did your parents react?", and if not then a popular question is about new albums and song, how the stars manage on tours and what happens to them at concerts or video shoots, and frequently stars are questioned about rumors made about them, so that the magazine can deliver reliable information to their readers, to become more popular.
If the pop star has a relationship they are also asked questions such as  : " How did you find each other?"
"When did it start?".
Lastly, the magazine would also tried to get as much information from the stars as possible, so they tend to ask questions about what they plan for future or questions that the interviewed may not want to answer such as : "What is your new video going to be about?"

Planning and Research - DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

As done for front cover and contents page I have also researched the conventions of double page spreads.

Typical conventions are : Headline, short introduction, large image usually spread across the two pages - sometimes just one, each beginning of an article starts with a big letter, captions and pull quotes and most importantly - article written in columns.

Some double page spreads include a lot of smaller pictures , usually on the right side, as the large image is always the focal point of the double page. These images have captions on them explain the picture for the readers e.g. : "At concert in France."
Also, some magazine tend to include page title - which is a the top left corner, which looks like a label letting the the reader know what is on the page.
Furthermore, some pull quotes have a fixed angle, larger font and in a color which differs from the article so that its stands out and attracts reader into reading the whole article.
Most double page spreads have one dominant color used in the layout e.g. green, red, black, white. These colors are picked so that they contrast with the picture and the color of the text - so that is it easy to read and appears professional.

Rihanna

Aside from school, me and my friends had gone to Westfield shopping centre where we got the chance to take our own pictures of Rihanna, which I might use in my contents page.

Flat Plan for Front cover and Contents page

Here are my flat plans for my front cover and also for contents page. As I gather appropriate images, I will decide which flat plan is more succsesful and which I will use as my final design by doing a survey.

front cover 1

Front cover 2

I have asked my classmates which one of the front cover design is more approprite, appealing and looks more conventional. The results were:
front cover draft 1 = 6 people thought it was better designed as it also included cover lines for other stories in the magazine
front cover draft 2 = 8 people thought this layout was more succsful as the cover story was placed in the centre, however some suggested that the captions should be placed on the bottom.
Therefore, I will use the flat plan 2.

Contents page 1

Contents page 2

I have done the same survey for my contents page flat plans, and found out the second flat plan was much more conventional for everyone i have asked - as it is easier to follow and understand. This was also because the first layout wouldn't suit the rock/pop genre.
Considering my classmates views, I will use the second layout for my contents page.

Name for my music magazine

In today's lesson I'm going to look at the possible names for my music magazine. I already know that the magazine will be based on pop and soft rock genre which allows me to associate the name with it and gives me an advantage to think of possible names quicker.

RECORD - tells the readers the artists in the magazine and the magazine itself is successful. Also makes the reader think the magazine of a music records which were used for a long time and were very famous.

RHYTHM - makes the readers feel that the magazine has its own/ or the same rhythm as the music they listen to.

MELODY - tells the viewer the magazine is a part of music however, more girly type of name, as it is sometimes used as a girls name.

ICON - suggests that the magazine contains the best selling and popular artists and music - the pop icon of today.

After considering these names I have done a little survey, asking my classmates to help me decided which would be the best name for my magazine.

RECORD - 6 people said this was a good name for a magazine because of the reasons I have given and also because it sound catchy and easy to remember.
RHYTHM - 3 people like this but suggested it would only be appropriate if it was used for an R&B magazine.
MELODY - 0 People did not like this name as they thought that melody is associated to soft music rather than pop and soft rock.
ICON - 4

Ideal Reader

This is Stacey Smith. She is Swedish, but born in England. She is 16 and a half, and just started 6th form. She plays the guitar, sings and likes swimming. At weekends she goes out with her friends a lot and enjoys going to the theatres and music events. In her free time she likes to read and write her own lyrics and songs. Her music is mainly influenced by soft rock and artists such as Pink, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Shakira, Bruno Marz, Jeff Buckley. She also dresses quiet simple but urban and shops in H&M, New Look, American Apparel. Stacey would also enjoy watching movies like Step Up, Grown Ups and School Of Rock. Her favorite TV shows are -Pretty Little Liars, Hollyoaks and One tree hill.
This is Robert Terry. He is half English and half Irish, 17 years old and currently studying A levels at college. He is a simple guy with a bit of edge and is very sociable. He enjoys various activities such as going to the gym, playing ps3 and has a major interest in music- mainly pop and rock ( artists like Kate Nash, Dizzie Rascal, Usher, Lupe Fiasco, Justin Timberlake, Kings of Leon, Maroon 5 .) and his style is mainly influenced by these genres and therefore, Robert likes to shop in stores such as Topman, River Island, JD, H&M and Blue Inc. In his free time, Robert also enjoys watching TV - programmes such as Friends, Glee, Everybody hates Chris, Gossip Girl Match of the day, X-factor and WWE. As Robert has a major interest in music he likes to read about new artists and latest music from time to time and likes to go to concerts and music festivals in summer.

Target Audience

The target audience for a my music magazine would be around the age of 16-19 both female and male, predominantly females. I decided this because my previous research shows that females tend to read music magazines a lot more that males and it would make my magazine more successful, because the best selling magazines are mostly read by them. Also, from my visit to WHSmith - music magazines where placed around men's magazines such as - men's health and games, which suggests that music magazines are common for males to read aswell. Considering my magazine being based on pop and soft rock, the major ethnicity reading this magazine would be white and following Christianity but not necessary religious. The social class for this magazine would be working class as most teenagers do not have a job and are in full time education, and this allows them gain quick knowledge about various topics which are also easy to understand. The target audience, teenagers, would most likely be interested in the pictures of pop stars rather than serious commentary content. They would also buy other media products such as CDs, music DVDs, rock magazines. They would be interested in mainstream artists such as Katy Perry, Lilly Alen, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Justin Beiber, Chipmunk, Dizzie Rascal, Pink, Taylor Swift, Green Day, Maroon 5,

WHSmith

Last lesson we were given homework to expand on our research for a music magazine. I visited WHSmith and looked at how the magazine section is arranged.

The first most noticeable section was the female/gossip magazines placed right next to the fashion and lifestyle magazines. Right opposite these were the home and gardening magazines to attract females into buying these magazines, who are alredy mothers or could be of older ages and have an interest in home and outside design/decorations. These are followed with the traveling and photography magazines, for those who have interest in design - which links to the home design magazines.
The wall section - biggest section, was displaying these magazines : computing, motoring, other transport, music, film and TV , men's lifestyle and last gaming.

Friday, 5 November 2010

In Thursdays lesson, I have researched a music magazine called KERRANG!
Firstly I was meant to find out the price - which was £2.20, the publisher - Bauer London Lifestyle Ltd. and how frequently it is publisher - weekly.
The mode of address used on the front cover was - serious, as the image was quiet dark and simple to portray heavy metal music.
I have then moved on to analyzing the different types of adverts included in the magazine.
Most adverts were music promotion adverts for new releases of albums and singles. Most of the appear in the beginning of the magazine and some at the end and where around £7 - £10 each. I have then noticed lifestyle adverts only only found 2 different items being advertised - games placed at the beginning of the magazine and clothes at the end which ranged from£5 - £30 and could also be considered as classified adverts which are always the small ads at the end of the magazine. Lastly I also found one advert for from the Royal Air force, offering a job and join the air force and this was at the beginning of the magazine.
moreover, I have looked at the contents page and looked at the features of this magazine :
- Feedback
- News
- Live Reviews
- Features
- K! Icon
- Album Reviews
- Gigs
- Swag
- Famous Last Words

The contents page also included a short paragraph from the editor of Kerrang magazine who wrote about his visit to the Iceland festival of music where he met lost of rock and heavy metal bands.
I then look at the image to text percentage in the magazine which i estimated to be 70% - 30%. This was because the magazines ideal reader would be a young person, and this age group particularly enjoys the great and lots of images rather than reading too much.

Music Magazines of my interest

Here I have posted some of the magazines that i sometimes buy and that interest me. I did this so that it helps me to develop my own idea of a music magazine, as I'm planning to include the music I enjoy.

Music Magazine - CONTENTS PAGE ANALYSIS

As analysing music magazine front covers I'm going to do the same for the contents page.
The contents must include these : the title 'contents', focal point, eye catching colours, page numbers, pictures and captions.

DRUMMER MAGAZINE CONTENTS PAGE
This magazines ideal reader would be people who play the drums or are interested in the rock music. I know this as most of the images are of drums and people dressed  in the style of rock .
This content page is eye catching as the choice of colours are contrasting; red and white / black and white.
As from a lesson I had learned that most articles and text in a magazines are written in a column style, which is a convention of every magazine, not just a music magazine and this is also applied in this contents page.
The features are broken down into two sections:
1. The features of ths issue - which tell the reader what the magazine contains that week/month
2. The regular features which are included every issue - so that when a regular reader buys this magazine and wants to read about a specific topic it is quicker for the reader to find it.

Planning and Reaserch - MUSIC MAGAZINE FRONT COVER ANALYSIS

To start to of main task which is the music magazine, I began by researching existing music magazines.
Firstly, I have looked and tried to identify the conventions of a typical music magazine and these were : masthead, cover lines & stories, pictures, focal point - usually an artist , captions and pull quotes, ISSN.

 BILLBOARD MAGAZINE
The target audience for this magazine would be mostly teenagers or young adults, both male and female, who are interested in pop, R'n'B and hip-hop music. This is because of the of colours used - grey and black for male and purple for females.
The use of language is formal but friendly and easy to understand as it is addressed to teenagers. The magazine has used humorous language e.g ' LADY GAGA................ Why She Doesn't Wear Pants' to attract people to buy it. This magazine used a strong image of Lady Gaga which overlays the text and makes her the focal point, as her face is at the centre of the front cover and her hair is purple.
The masthead is at the top of the page, the inside of letters 'b' 'o' 'a' 'd' are filled in with three different colours.  The main cover line has the biggest font as it is about Lady Gaga and the rest are slightly smaller so that the readers know which story is equivalent to her. The other captions are also slightly smaller compare to the cover story.
Moreover, every magazine includes an ISSN ( international standard serial number ) which is used to identify periodical publications such as magazines. This number is displayed in the bar code area.

KERRANG MAGAZINE
This magazine made me spot another convention of a music magazine which is small captions or cover lines above the title of the magazine. The magazine used a picture of a band called the Blackout, which is an alternative rock band. The viewers know this by the way they are dressed - modern and smart which indicated their music is soft but their hair styles tells us they are into rock. The cover story in the centre of the page is another convention as it is suppose to inform the readers about the band displayed on the front cover.
Furthermore, this magazine is also including smaller pictures with captions, such as '5 free posters' to give some viewer more reasons to buy the magazine.
Another convention is that which ever artist is on the front cover is also used as the top story in the magazine.

Magazine conventions

Today's lesson was about the conventions of magazines and what the mode of address means.
Mode of address is the way the media represents and addresses their target audience( this is also linked to the Ideal reader and my existing research). For this to be successful number of thing have to be considered :
  • Style of language
  • Use of slang
  • Is it writing formal or informal?
  • The quality of what is being written
  • Is it humorous or serious ?
Colours magazine

The style of language I used for my magazine is formal  however, friendly as it is addressed to teenagers. I have not used slang as i want the magazine to appear professional and  there is a chance that the staff, visitors or students whose English isn't as developed/ fluent and may not understand the text if its in slang.
The ideal reader of my magazine is someone passionate for the arts, it is suitable for me to say that the content of this magazine should be more serious rather then humorous. This is because the magazine will talk about education and how to improve on art skills and therefore, the quality of what is being written should be of high standard.

Feedback on my front cover

Dyanna - I like it because there is a large range of colours used. however, what I would improve is the amount of space that is left blank. Also the logo - palette should be a bit bigger.

Kunigunda - Overall I think the design is very nice and eye catching, but the one thing I don't like is the choice of fonts, because it was very hard for me to read some them.

Mahonni - The title is very attractive and also the background picture because it is in black and white and the painting on the picture is in colour, but what I dislike is the different colours and fonts used for the subheadings.

Philip - I like the use of pictures and the colours used however, there is too much writing on the left side and nothing on the right side of the front page which makes is look unbalanced.

Front cover - Denotation & Connotation

Denotation
Picture of a girl next to a painting, two smaller pictures in the bottom left corner.
Colourful headings that say : colours in yellow, pointillism in green, upcoming exhibitions in blue and British art contest in red.

Connotation
The background picture tells the viewer that the girl on the picture painted the painting next to her. this is because of her body language - the way she is standing shows the painting is hers and her face expressions show us that she is happy and proud of her work. The fact that painting is in colour and everything else is black and white suggests that the magazine is focusing on painting or art in general.
The various colour used for the heading illustrate fun but too much chaos as they blend together.

LESSON - Denotation and Connotation (14/10/2010)

This lesson helped me to understand how denotaion underlines narrative and representational issues, which  was one of our lesson objectives. I now also understand the difference between denotation and connotation.

Denotation
The simeplest meaning of and image.
Denotating is  identifying ONLY what you see in the picture.
Denotation only refers to what is actually reproduced in the text.
While denotating an image we cannot say what the image may represent as denotaion is the first level of analysis, therefore in denotational terms if we cannot see anything else, we only assume that it is there.

Connotation
Connotation is linked to the cultural experience readers bring to it.
It is the second level of analysis which is identifying what the denotation of an image represents.
Connotation is where we the readers adds our own information so that we can understand what the image is signifying, for example an image of cross would be assosiated with religion and symbolizes Christ.

ROLAND BARTHES
French literary theorist, phylosopher and semiotician.
Acording to Roland Barthes we - the readers , go through  various stages when we deconstruct the meaning of a sing. It was R. Barthes who identified that connotation is when the reader adds its own information to an image in order to understand it better.

LESSON - Representation (6/10/2010)

In this lesson we have learned these new keywords :
- Representation is how the media chooses to present a certain individual, group or event.
- Archetype is the ultimate stereotype.
- Counter type is the complete opposite of a stereotype.

Moreover, media institutions use stereotypes because the audience will instantly relate to them which is called the visual shortcut.

Front cover draft

Today i have designed two drafts of what my magazine front cover may possibly look like. I have asked my classmates to give me a feedback on which  one they think would be more suitable, and found out all of them liked design 1. This was because they thought that design 1 appeared more sophisticated, organized and eye catching. They disliked design 2 becuase it appeared very common to the rest of the magazines. I agree with this, as I have designed it using the internet - existing magazine front covers. To conclude, this lesson helped me to choose which design im going to use for my magazine - design 1.

SURVEY 3

I have managed to create another survey to help me find out what content I should use for my front cover. However, I have only asked 15 people who have interest in art, so that it is quicker for me to gather the answers. And these are the questions I have asked:

1. If you were to buy a art magazine would you prefer to read about : ( in this questions each person could choose 3 things)

- Famous Artists/ Designers/ Photographers from around the world  =  7
- Different techniques and styles used in art = 9
- Upcoming exhibitions and art events = 8
- List of contests you could sing up for = 8
- How to use art equipment well = 2
- How the school is doing and what is planned for the next term = 5
- Tips on good preparation for exams and assessments = 6

2. Would you like if the magazine would include more pictures than the text ?

         Yes = 6                             No = 3                        Balance between both = 6

My Ideal Reader

Considering last lesson, I have decided to identify the ideal reader for my college magazine. To begin with I already know that the ideal reader of my magazine would be :
- Male/Female
- Aged from 16 to 19
- Interested in art
- A student from the art college

Furthermore, the ideal reader would have an open mind and passion for art, enjoy learning and trying out new things and techniques, visiting historical places and galleries.

LESSON - Ideal Reader

In today's lesson we have analysed some magazines and identified the ideal reader for each one of them. To do this we have used a lot of stereotyping and found out that it was the best way to identify the ideal reader and the better the analysis is the better and more successful the magazine is.
Moreover, we were given some questions to help us analyse the ideal reader and looked at these magazines:

Junior
An ideal reader for this magazine would be a middle aged woman/ mother. She would most likely be eating cereals - Special K for breakfast as they would be trying to loose weight from their pregnancy. they would also drive a people carrier car as they may have more kids alredy and it is a family car. the woman reading this magazine would probably live ina 4 bedroom house, and in her free time would watch family shows and possibly carttons because of her kids. She would also want her family eat heathy and organic food, and most probably choose family holiday resorts to go over the summer.

Analysing Movie Posters

Kick Ass
The teenager - main character in this movie is represented in a stereotypical way as he is holding a weapon; appearing as if he was fighting. That's why the poster is designed in such way that it embraces violence rather than becoming a superhero. This is because most teenager enjoy watching movies with a violent content. The poster also includes other characters from the movie, which are perfectly portrayed by the clothes they are wearing. The main character in the green - symbolizes energy and balance, learning and growth as he is trying to become a superhero and save lives, Hit girl wearing purple which can be explained as the colour of royalty and power as she is illustrated as the strongest figure. Furthermore there are two more characters : Big Daddy  in black that symbolizes death and red that stands for danger as the character Red Mist betrays Kick Ass .  The layout of this poster is very successful as the background contrasts with the title which contrasts with the characters, and that way everything is seen clearly.

American Pie
This is a typical teenage movie about male friends who have a very high interest in sexual activities during the spring break, which is the main stereotype in this movie. However, there is also one counter type- which is one of the boys. This is because he already has a girlfriend and does not behave like his other three friends.

Pictures

Today I have taken some pictures in the art department in my school, so that it would give me an idea of what my front cover may look like. I have also set up a still life images and used photographs I have taken before and pictures of my art work which I did last year, as they can be very useful to me in the future and i could also use them in the content page.

SURVEY 2

Motto/Slogan for the magazine COLOURS
I have questioned some people about the possible slogan of my magazine, which i would place under the title within the masthead, and these are the results:

Each is important = 4 - because it puts everyone in a equal position.
Creation Always Varies = 12 - because art is all about creating and developing new things.
Different makes a Difference = 8 - because its catchy and interesting.

As most students voted for Creation always varies, I'm going to use it as the slogan.

Designing the title

In this lesson I have started designing the title of the magazine. Firstly, I researched different websites for font generator and I found  http://www.dafont.com/ to help me find an appropriate font for my title. However, before I decide which title I'm going to use, I will create another survey for the magazines motto.

I used decorative font and changed the colour of each letter.
This is so that the different colours show the variety of the students.
Moreover, this title would only be clear to read if the background
image I use will be black and white or edited so that it contrasts with the title.

Considering that the first title I have designed is most likely to ''blend in''
with the background image, I only changed the colour of three letters so that the
whole title could be seen clearly. Furthermore, if I was to use this design,
I would change the green letter to yellow for the effect of using the primary colours.

In this design, I have left the font sharp, clear and single coloured, because I added
loggo to the title - palette, which is colourful and gives the design a simple but
profesional look. However, if I chose this design I would try changing the font so that
it appears more artistic.
